League Rules
THE VC Cumbria league is run on Tuesday nights throughout the season with events ranging from the 10km Whinlatter Hill Climb to the longer 30 mile Braithwaite Time Trial. The longer club events at 50 and 100 miles are held at the weekend. These are the current league rules.
1 All club members (including second claim) are eligible.

2 All Tuesday night events on the club fixture list will count (subject to Rule 12) and also the club championship 50 and 100 mile TT races. Note: Currently there is no separate a 50 mile club championship and this has been incorporated in to the VC Cumbria Open 50 held towards the end of the season - no other open 50s on the L505 course will be counting league events.

3 The fastest eligible rider will receive 50 points, the second 49, third 48 and so on. In exceptional circumstances (i.e. more than 50 riders eligible for league points in a race) the qualifying points for all league races in that season will be adjusted upward to cope.

4 Races are divided into 'Long', 'Medium' and 'Short'.
  • Long - races over 25 miles, i.e., club 30, 50 and 100.
  • Medium - races over 16.1 miles up to and including 25 miles, Bothel 16 (16.5 miles) and all 25's.
  • Short - races of 16.1 miles or less i.e., all 10's and Bass Lake (16.1 miles).

  • 5 All your long races count.

6 Your best 3 medium races will count with the number being reduced by 1 for every cancelled race.

7 Your best 8 short races will count with the number being reduced by 1 for every 2 cancelled races.

8 Based on the points scored over the league season categories will be awarded for:
      MenWomen
      Juvenile 12-15Jun/Juv 12-17
      Junior 16-17Senior 18-39
      Senior 18-39Vet 40+40+
      Vet 40+ 40-49
      Vet 50+ 50-59
      Vet 60+ 60+

9 The overall league winner is the rider with the most points irrespective of category.

10 Your age category for the season will remain the same throughout the season and will be determined by your age category at the first league race you start in that season.

11 If two riders points are equal at the end of the season the higher placing will be determined by the rider that has beaten the other the most times. Where this cannot be determined, the highest average speed will decide it.

12 If a Tuesday night event is promoted as a team time trial (TTT) for riders of two or more it will not be a counting league event even where a rider has completed the event as a solo.

13 Only solo riders are eligible for league points. This includes trike riders but excludes teams, tandem and tandem trike riders.

14 If you are identified as a marshall for a tuesday night race and ride the event, you will not qualify for league points and will not be given a time in the published league results - you may be given a time on the night at the discretion of the time keeper. The exception to this rule is where you have agreed to swap marshalling duties at least a week in advance, but not if you swap on the night.
